NEW: Try Our Favorite Bison Recipes Click Here!
Northland Bison Ranch began operations in 1995. It was initiated
by the personal desire of Dave and Pam Johnson to re-introduce native
livestock to their traditional habitat, and out of personal interest in
providing a historical, educational and exciting experience for Nevis
visitors and inhabitants, Dave & Pam sought a means to become involved
in one of Minnesota's renewable alternative agriculture projects. Thus
the choice of Bison.
The Northland Bison Ranch husband and wife team enjoy their involvement
with the Bison. It is especially satisfying returning them to their
natural environment, and it is very exciting when a new calf is born. The
herd joins the cow in protecting its new member.
The Bison provide more than just entertainment. For centuries Native Americans
relied upon the Bison as a source for meat, clothing, sacred religious symbols,
and medicinal remedies. Today, Bison ranchers utilize the Bison for a variety
of marketable products. There is a market for the meat, hides, fur, horns,
skulls and other parts which are used in Native American Art.
You are invited to be a guest at Northland Bison Ranch. You can take a bus
tour out to the herd and witness the "American Buffalo", the Bison ranging the
fields as they naturally did a hundred years ago. In our new building you will learn
about the Bison history, the animal itself and its uses in our modern world.
